Who it is for
Anyone who wants to bake over wood and finds the fire-tending part of the fun.
The Karu 12 is the entry model with a wood fire. You burn wood or charcoal, and with the separately sold gas burner you can turn it into a gas oven after all. That combination makes it the most versatile oven under three hundred euros.
A wood fire gives you something gas does not: smoke flavour, and the irregular, fierce flame that puts the characteristic black blisters on the crust. The trade is work — you light it, feed the fire between pizzas, and clear out ash afterwards.
With no built-in thermometer and no glass door, this is the most stripped-back version. Anyone who wants the comfort of the Karu 2 pays a hundred euros more.
